It’s pretty rare to find a provider these days who is both experienced in breech vaginal birth, and willing and able to attend one. There are a few OBGYNs out there who will still do it, and there are definitely some midwives around, but for various reasons it has become fairly unheard of here in the United States. Most of these reasons have to do with birth politics and the legislation of midwifery. Thankfully there are professionals who are not only experienced, but who have taken on the responsibility of teaching other midwives and doctors how to safely guide a mother through birthing a breech baby. Last August I had the great honor of attending and photographing one of these births, and I will never forget it. I’m so thankful for the privilege of being able to capture the strength and power of the female body!
